Smt. Rajashree Baruah – Board of Directors

Smt. Rajashree Baruah,
Chief General Manager, NABARD

Smt. Rajashree Kakati Baruah is a holder of Bachelor of Arts (Honrs.) from Delhi University and Post-Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication. During her career over three decades in NABARD, she has served the national bank in various capacities and she has rich knowledge and experience in agriculture, women empowerment, rural development, finance etc. She carries a laurel of being the first woman District Development Manager of Morigaon district, in the history of NABARD. All along her career, Smt. Baruah has been keenly involved in agriculture, rural development, rural infrastructure, banking etc. Under her leadership, NABARD’s interventions have been diversified towards the fisheries sector, promotion of Farmers’ Producer Organizations / Companies, orchard development etc. in the state of Assam.

Smt. Baruah has the distinction of having received the award from Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President, Government of India for her outstanding contribution in the field of banking and finance and for spearheading NABARD’s interventions towards transforming Assam’s agriculture and rural development. Smt. Baruah played a pivotal role in guiding the SLBC (State Level Bankers’ Committee) and framing the guidelines of the scheme of Govt. of Assam in the year 2018 (1) on providing homage to the brave martyrs who fought against British imperialism on January 28, 1894; and (2) upholding the rights of the farmer. She spearheaded NABARD’s e-Shakthi program launched as a pilot in Nalbari district, which successfully brought around 75,000 rural households on the digital platform of banks. Adding to her diversified experience, she also had witnessed bringing first climate change adaptation project to Assam under the NAFCC – Management of Ecosystem of Kaziranga National Park by creating Climate Resilient Livelihood for vulnerable communities through organic farming and pond-based pisciculture. Presently she is heading the Micro Credit Innovations Department of NABARD Head Office, Mumbai.

Smt. Baruah has been appointed as Nominee Director representing NABARD on the Board of NABFINS with effect from September 26, 2019.
